Athan Maraziotis – A Batsman to Watch

All present indications are that the Parramatta District Cricket Club has in its ranks another budding batting star in livewire young right-handed opener Athan Maraziotis. 

Very much in the embryonic stage of what promises to be a prolific scoring NSW Premier Cricket career, Athan delivered a highly productive 2025/26 season and left the club eager to witness his further development in the upcoming 2026/27 season.

Run scoring is a family trait, his father Paul enjoyed a long and heavy-scoring career in Premier Cricket.

Athan opened his account with Parramatta with a sprinkle of appearances in A.W. Green Shield in 2022/23. With the experience gained from that taste of the renowned junior representative competition he came to the fore in the 2023/24 campaign.

Opening the batting the pugnacious youngster ‘took the fight’ to the opposing new ball bowlers and got the Parra innings off to several ‘rousing starts’ which was a strong factor in the team’s success, that ultimately concluded with a spot in the Grand Final.

His bountiful Green Shield season yielded an excellent 383 runs @ 47.88. Equipped with a strong array of attacking shots and a spirited attitude the high voltage nature of his scoring is shown by the following performance – 86 v. Gordon (83 balls), 65 v. Easts (69 balls), 89 v. Randwick-Petersham (67 balls), 73* v. Campbelltown (107 balls). Other highlights were 148 runs 1st wicket partnership v. Rand-Petes with Arjun Nadadur, and a 138 runs 3rd wicket stand v. Gordon with Blake Noorbergen. 

Athan’s efforts resulted in his selection in the A.W. Green Shield Merit Team.

The 2023/24 season also saw him launch his formal NSW Premier Cricket career in Fifth grade under the tutelage of the experienced Liam Gillies and this team also finished Grand Finalists. The tyro opener was a productive force in this team as well; he pocketed an impressive 477 runs @ 47.70 to be the side’s top run-scorer and blasted his maiden century (123 v. UNSW [155 balls]), other fine contributions were 75* v. Campbelltown (62 balls), 90 v. Easts in the Semi Final and 67 v. Manly in the Grand Final. 

The 2024/25 season proved to be another favourable step in the rising youngster’s cricket, interspersed with Kings School cricketing commitments Athan was able to muster 263 runs @ 32.88 in a mixture of Fourth and the Premiership winning Third grade teams for Parramatta, highlights being a busy 58 (46 balls) v. Manly [4th grade] and 72 (92 balls) v. Hawkesbury [3rd grade] – combining with Nick Bateup in a 177 runs 1st wicket partnership.

Selection in the NSW Metro team that competed in the Australian Under 17 Championship saw his representative career take its first steps.

But it was the 2025/26 season that witnessed Athan take his game to another level and generate a string of outstanding achievements. Cracking form in Third grade featuring back-to-back digs of 110 v. Bankstown and 64 v. Sydney University projected him up to Second grade where he continued to churn out runs, amassing 454 @ 41.27 – compiling a determined 100 v. Northern District, matched with 59 v. Sutherland, 54 v. UNSW and 69 v. Easts. 

Athan shared two outstanding partnerships during the season – 120 runs for the 4th wicket v. Sutherland with Santhosh Samuel and 165 runs for the 3rd wicket v. Northern District with Kashvi Gunawardane.

These performances earned him a First-grade debut v. Fairfield – hence becoming Parramatta District Cricket Club First grade Player Number: 631.  

His initial Poidevin-Gray Shield venture was also a rousing success, producing a top-class 349 runs @ 58.17 which included 100 v. Gordon, 64 v. Bankstown, 62 v. Sydney University. A showcase feature of the P.G. campaign was the 220 runs 1st wicket partnership v. Gordon compiled with Nitesh Samuel. Athan won the Harold ‘Mudgee’ Cranney Award – most runs in P.G.

Athan was selected for the NSW 2025/26 U19 Metro State Challenge.

But by far his biggest 2025/26 honour was winning the coveted Parramatta District Cricket Club’s Players’ Player Award – The Cumberland Medal.

This fine young batsman has set the platform for a flourishing cricketing future.
