In the winter of 2015, Daniel Rixon broke his thumb playing Aussie Rules for St.George. As a result, he missed the start of the 2015-16 season as he waited for the injury to recover. In order to prove his fitness to resume in 1st Grade, he came back through 2nd Grade in Round 6 vs Hawkesbury at Owen Earle Oval. At the time, he had played 261 matches for Sutherland, including 221 in 1sts, with a highest score of 95, made in 1sts the previous season.

He certainly proved that he had fully recovered from his thumb injury, opening the batting and smashing a club record score for 2nd Grade with 272 off 248 balls in 327 minutes, with 7 sixes and 31 fours! The records he set were:

* Highest score in 2nd Grade vs Hawkesbury (previous 132 Kevin Humphreys 1990-91)

* Highest score in all grades vs Hawkesbury (previous 212no Matthew Bradley 1sts 1999-00)

* Highest score in 2nd Grade vs all clubs (previous 215 David Murphy vs Campbelltown Camden 2009-10)

* Second highest score in 2nd Grade history (started 1895-96) – behind 278no Alfred White for North Sydney vs Manly 1904-05 (Alfred White went on to play 4 matches for NSW)

* There have only been four higher scores in 1st Grade history (started 1892-93) – 335 Victor Trumper 1902-03, 321 Phil Jaques 2006-07, 308 Harry Donnan 1896-97 (all three were Test players) & 275 Sean Pope 1993-94 – and one higher in 3rd Grade – 287no Brian Clemow 1992-93 – i.e. Daniel's 272 is the 7th highest score in all grades since grade cricket began in 1892-93.

At 2/153, he was joined by Jamie Brown, who also took advantage of the benign batting conditions to record his highest grade score. Jamie made 172 not out off 151 balls , in 215 minutes, with 4 sixes and 16 fours. Their partnership took the score to 3/499 and totalled 347 for the 3rd wicket in 215 minutes, off 309 balls. The partnership set the following records:

* Highest 3rd wicket partnership in 2nd Grade for the Club

* Highest partnership for any wicket in 2nd Grade for the Club

* Highest 3rd wicket partnership in all grades (previous for all of these was 284 by David Murphy & Scott Pickering vs Campbelltown Camden in 2009-10)

* Highest partnership for any wicket in all grades (previous 285 by Nic Maddinson & Matthew Hughston for 2nd wicket in the 1st Grade semi-final vs Eastern Suburbs in 2009-10)

* Second highest partnership for any wicket in 2nd Grade history – behind 357 by Angus Farncombe & John Moran (2nd wicket Northern District vs Campbelltown) in 1988-89

* There have only been five higher partnerships in 1st Grade history:

- 423 Victor Trumper & D.Gee in 1902-03

- 390 Greg Mail & Michael Phelps in 2005-06

- 371 Grant Lambert & Ben Rohrer in 2005-06

- 370* Damien Bourke & Ashton May in 2015-16

- 366 Steve Cazzulino & Ashton May in 2009-10

i.e. this is the 7th highest partnership in all grades since grade cricket began in 1893-94.
