ON THIS DAY - 17th March

In 1962, J BOUNDY (#118) made a pair as A-Res grade declared 40 behind Hillgrove's 98 (Laurie Blake 6-2) in order to try and achieve outright points and still qualify for the semis. Chasing 204 in their second innings, they collapsed and narrowly avoiding losing outright instead.

In 1973, BOB BARWICK (#234) and DAVID LYNCH (#249) added 117 for the 4th wicket as A-Res grade wrapped up the regular season with a win against Easts. They not only starred with the bat, but shared the wickets in Easts 1st innings: Barwick 4-42 and Lynch 3-7.

In 1990, PHIL MELVILLE (#542), in a season pregnant with wickets, finished off the regular season with 10-19 for the match, as 1st grade crushed Uralla by 287 runs. MICHAEL CONNOLLY (#293) made his third and final century - all of them in the top grade - and was one of four batsmen who retired. He added 101 with DANIEL RYAN (#514), who along with Graham Frost (#333), retired when they had their half centuries.

BOB HUGHES (#511) capped a fine career with 6-31 including a hat trick as 2nd grade beat Centrals outright.

TONY BENNETT (#355) had the dubious honour of again reaching a bowler's hundred, taking 2-128 as Hillgrove.made 445, the highest ever made against Waratahs in 5th grade.

In 1996, MATT GRIFFITH (#717) recorded his best bowling figures for Waratahs, taking 7-57 for 2nd grade v Hillgrove Colts. In 5th grade, STEVEN DAVIS (#751) - son of Wes - took 8-60 v Uralla.
