In 1972, in the only game they lost all season, A-Res grade were beaten in the One Day Final by TAS. Batting first, the strong Waratahs batting line up were reduced to 8-53, before Allan Smith (#124) and Terry Mackenzie (#54) added 55 for the ninth wicket to at least give the bowlers something to bowl at. TAS had looked comfortable at 3-97 until a late clatter of wickets restored some hope. It was the first Premiership TAS had won for ten years.
