ON THIS DAY - 27th September (the old fashion way)

In 1958, Waratahs B grade were finding two day cricket difficult to adjust to. They rattled up their usual quick runs by tea on the first day and then spent the most of rest of the game watching de la Salle bat. GEOFF WHITTON (#85) held three catches in the innings and TONY MORRISS (#78) 3-114, joined a sellect group who have conceded a hundred runs in an innings. The de la Salle team contained the younger versions of several players who would become notable in Armidale cricket, including two McCanns, Melville and Turvey.

In 1969, COL MARSHALL (#102) took 7-74, including the hat trick, as Waratahs beat University by 55 runs. It was his second hat trick for the club.
