On the 16 October 1966 this Australian Team under the captaincy of Bob Simpson flew out of Melbourne en route to South Africa.
It was an eventful occasion in more ways than one because Ian Redpath had forgotten his passport but fortunately a friend was able to bring it up from Geelong to Essendon Airport where the team departed from.
As a young boy at the time I can still remember the pandemonium this caused at the airport because there were no mobile phones, or freeways at the time to ensure the trip was a little easier!
Anyone who knew my father well would know that he was none too impressed with Redders "oversight" at the time but their friendship endured for many many years after this until my father’s passing in 2011.
PS My father was also none too impressed when he received the copies of this official team photograph given it had incorrect an initial for his name - WS Jacobs instead of W L Jacobs.
